DINING REVIEW: P.F. CHANG’S (BOCA RATON)
Our local P.F. Chang’s is located at 1400 Glades Road in Boca Raton. We usually come here for a few of our favorites, which we are going to describe below.
According to their website, P.F. Chang’s makes all of their food “from scratch in each restaurant, every day.” Having been around since 1993, now a well-known upscale Asian restaurant chain, P.F. Chang’s was indeed founded by Cecilia Chiang on the concept of making food from scratch every day in each restaurant. And that’s what we like about P.F. Chang’s: wok hei, or the “breath of the wok,” an extremely high-heat cooking technique that uses an open flame that imparts a unique flavor to the food, not commonly found in restaurants.
P.F. CHANG’S WONTON SOUP
We like to start with P.F. Chang’s wonton soup, which comes in a large bowl to be shared among the table. It includes broth, house-made pork wontons, shrimp, water chestnuts, mushrooms, fresh spinach, and chicken. It is pretty tasty, and makes a great starter that can easily be shared among a few people.
P.F. CHANG’S SHRIMP WITH LOBSTER SAUCE
One of our favorites at the P.F. Chang’s in Boca Raton is the shrimp with lobster sauce ($15.95), which includes Asian mushrooms, chopped black beans, peas, egg, and green onion. It also comes with a bowl of white rice. The salty fermented black beans certainly change the dynamic of the flavor, and also balance perfectly with the garlic, wine, and egg sauce.
P.F. CHANG’S MONGOLIAN BEEF
P.F. Chang’s Mongolian Beef ($18.95), a heartier dish, consists of sweet soy glaze, flank steak, garlic, and green onion. The best part of the dish is the way the meat is cooked: flash-seared in a wok, making the meat crispy on the outside, yet extremely tender. While fairly simple (primarily beef and scallions), the flavor is very vibrant with a perfect texture for this kind of a dish.
P.F. CHANG’S TONKOTSU RAMEN
The Tonkotsu Ramen ($12.95) is a new menu item at our local P.F.Chang’s in Boca Raton. It is made of a creamy tonkotsu pork broth, shiitakes, edamame, carrots, bean sprouts, tomatoes, and green onions. If you enjoy creamy soups, you will love this one.
